Leading 13 Ministries, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council came to Tianjin to discuss the development and construction of Tianjin Binhai New Area in June 2006. Looking back at the reform and opening-up history of China, it has been developing with the speed of ten years as a big leap forward, Shenzhen in 1980s, Pudong of Shanghai in 1990s. The coming ten years is bound to be Tianjin Binhai New Area's.

In 2006, there were 1050 newly approved foreign-invested companies. Averagely, at least 3 foreign companies invested in Tianjin every working day. The total amount of investment was 14.436 billion U.S. dollars. It is estimated that more than 1000 billion RMB will be invested in the New Area in next 5 years.

The Area is exciting increasing number of large-scale projects’ interest and winning their favor, such as, the project of 1 million tons of ethylene by SINOPEC (Tianjin), which is the largest petroleum and petrochemical one in China, the general assembling factory of the Air Bus' A320 in China and the setting up of the metallurgy equipment factory invested by the Italian Techint Group, the great famous steel manufacturer in the world. As the new engine of the future development of Tianjin, the Binhai New Area will not only be the third leading city of the regional economy, but also bring a promising future for the economic development of the Bohai Rim also. It will surely be the 3rd wave of Chinese reform and opening-up.
