The futures and derivatives debate for Steel has been on and off for a long time, with many false starts and blind alleys. Now it is heating up again and this time, with the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange set to launch a contract in October 2007, the London Metal Exchange contracts due in April 2008, and with commodity exchanges from New York to Shanghai developing contract offerings, it looks that steel futures trading will finally arrive.

What will this mean for steel’s current structure, will it change? Can it change or indeed, should it change at all? Questions being debated already inside and outside the steel community.

Platts Steel’s Future conference will try to answer once and for all the fundamental question are futures for steel? By bringing together the industries leaders and analysts with experts from futures exchanges, derivative traders and steels financiers to make the case for both sides.
