O Globo news service reported that Pataxos Indians in Brazil are blocking the entrance to an iron ore mine belonging to MMX Mineracao e Metalicos SA in Minas Gerais state since yesterday afternoon
The news service said that about 30 protesters are awaiting the arrival of company representatives to negotiate the release of two trucks that have been prevented from entering the mine at Carmesia.
According to O Globo, the protesters are demanding that MMX donate a tractor to compensate for the disturbance caused by the trucks traveling to and from the mine through an Indian reservation.
An MMX representative in Rio de Janeiro declined to comment on the incident this morning.
