It is reported that Baotou Iron & Steel Company Ltd hit record high in May by producing over 824,800 tonnes of pig iron, 835,000 tonnes of steel products and some 800,000 tonnes of billet steel.

As per report in face of tougher transportation of resources and fuels affected by the quake in Sichuan, Baotou Steel energetically make efforts to ensure the sourcing and quality of resources to guarantee the steel output.

Baotou steel put a lot of work into improving smelting technology, basic management and decreasing the coke ratio. Meanwhile, the steelmaker took good advantages of the advanced equipments of the newly built No 6 blast furnace and popularized the improved technology in other five furnaces to help increasing the production level of the iron works.

The iron plant and rail beam mill of Baotou Steel made adjustment of products mix by increasing the output of square steel and some other varieties to 50,000 tonnes. Steel rails for export also kept up going momentum with a total yield of 70,000 tonnes exceeding the scheduled amount.
