Vietnamese coal output in June down 3.8% YoY

According to Vietnam’s General Statistics Office, Vietnam's coal production in June 2008 fell 3.8% YoY to 3.595 million tones. The revised GSO data showed that figure represents a 15.4% MoM fall from 4.248 million tonnes produced in May 2008.

GSO said that Vietnam exported an estimated 2.0 million tonnes of coal valued at USD 130 million in June, down by 27.4% in volume terms but up by 46.0% in value.

It added that electricity output in June rose 12.8% on year to 6.4 billion kilowatt hours. In May, Vietnam produced 6.4 billion kWh. During the January to June period this year, Vietnam produced an estimated 35.9 billion kilowatt per hour or 15.5% more electricity on year.
