Videocon chairman advises TATA to settle Singur issue directly
Monday, 01 Sep 2008

Mr Venugopal Dhhot chairman of Videocon Industries and one of the largest land acquirers in West Bengal said the TATAs should immediately initiate dialogue with the local community in Singur and end the agitation caused by the Trinamool Congress agitation and refusal of 2200 odd families to accept compensation for land taken over for the Nano factory.

Mr Dhoot after meeting Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee CM of West Bengal said that "The TATAs should talk to farmers directly and sort out the issue. The government can assist them but they should talk directly it is a small matter.”

Mr Dhoot had acquired several thousand acres the state for a steel and power plant directly from farmers.

He said that “I was invited into farmers homes and honoured with sweets and tea because we approached directly and in the correct manner.” But he did not comment when asked whether he could mediate in the Singur dispute.
