BS reported that Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee CM of West Bengal will take up the deep sea project issue with the central government on his next visit to Delhi.
Addressing the national executive committee meeting of FICCI, Mr Bhattacharjee, who was making a pitch for investments said that the deep sea port project was pending and he would take up the matter with Mr Pranab Mukherjee union minister for external minister or even the PM of India.
He listed out the projects, which were in the offing as also the ones which had been finalized. He said that after the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation, it had been decided that a deep sea port would come up at Chittagong in Bangladesh.
Mr Bhattacharjee said that “But we are ready with the project and are awaiting approval from the shipping ministry. He has already taken up the Kulpi port project with the shipping ministry. He said that I have written to the managing director of Dubai World and the shipping ministry about the project, but we are facing some problems from the Kolkata Port authorities.”
Merits mention, the Kulpi Port project had been pending for some time and Dubai World had set a final timeline for the project and all clearances. However while making his pitch to the industrialists, he admitted that one of hurdles was land acquisition in the state.
