The Hindu reported that National Mineral Development Corporation is scouting for consultants for carrying out the due diligence on its proposed steel plant in Chhattisgarh.
Headquartered in Hyderabad, NMDC’s iron ore mines are located in Chhattisgarh where it now proposes to set up a value addition facility with this plant which will come up at Nagarpur near Jagdalpur, 350 kilometer from the State capital This marks a complete upstream diversification for the public sector company.
The foundation for this 3 million tonne per annum plant was laid jointly by Mr Ram Vilas Paswan union Steel Minister and Mr Raman Singh CM of Chhattisgarh in August 2008 and efforts were on to implement the project within 36 months so as to unveil it on August 15th 2011. An investment of INR 12,000 crore has been earmarked for the project.
