Interfax China cited Mr Andrei Kobyakov deputy PM of Belarusian as saying that the Belarusian government has initiated new talks with Russia on the price of the gas to be supplied to Belarus in 2009.
He said that "We have the issue of the gas talks. Belarus is initiating these talks and is hoping that we will reach an agreement."
He added that Belarus's initiative was caused by the reduction of the world prices on oil and petroleum products, which determine the price of gas.
