Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Super Steel Products Corporation is planning a layoff of about 50 or 60 employees in the Milwaukee area, but the cutbacks are unrelated to the plant closing the company announced this week in Glenville.
Mr Jim Paetsch director of corporate attraction and relocation for the regional economic development group, speaking on behalf of Super Steel, said that its long term prospects remain bright. He added that "We definitely think that these guys are going to be viable for a long time, but like anybody else and any other firm, they are being impacted by the global economy and the situation that it's in right now."
Super Steel said that it plans to close its Glenville factory by early April 2009, eliminating 175 jobs there. After the Milwaukee cuts, employment in southeastern Wisconsin will be 350 to 360 people.
Privately held Super Steel makes railcars for freight railroads and transit systems and products for the automotive, construction, farm and industrial sectors.
