Sunday, 14 Dec 2008

It is reported that ACINOX Tunas, a Cuba stainless steel production plant, has exceeded the production of stainless steel destined for public works. The program has been developed by the Cuban state to benefit the country’s economy and population.

Mr Luis Rosendo Mendoza Hernandez, production director of the plant said that “Up until October 2008, the production of stainless steel and corrugated bars account for a total of over MXN 47million.

Mr Hernandez mentioned that this production is mainly destined for public works on housing, the construction of power generation sets, the defense program. He added that “An important part of this production will be destined for exports to the European and Latin American markets mainly.”

Despite damage caused to the industry by Hurricane Ike, October 2008 production was the highest in the history of the plant, with 3,950 tonnes of corrugated bars produced on the 200T rolling mill and 11,729 tonnes produced in the steel workshop. It has plans to produce 118,000 tonnes of billets and 44,000 tonnes of corrugated bars in 2009.
