Jordan Times reported that industrial exports from Zarqa and Mafraq governorates increased by 14.8% from USD 387.1 million in 2007 to USD 444.4 million in 2008.
As per a report by Zarqa Chamber of Industry, leather and garments topped the list of exports generating USD 231 million or constituting 52% of the total exports. Foodstuffs, agricultural produce and animals accounted for 18.1% of total exports or JOD 80.4 million.
The report also indicated that medical equipment and pharmaceutical products came in third place as they amounted to USD 36.3 million, or 8.1% of the governorates' exports. Exports to the United States totaled USD 226.6 million.
