Projects today reported that the Andhra Pradesh government plans to set up a 2,000 MW nuclear power plant in the state. The state possesses the second largest deposits of uranium after Jharkhand, hence its decision to set up a nuclear power plant is quite feasible.
Nuclear Power Corporation of India and AP Genco will enter into a partnership to set up the power plant. Under the agreement, NPCIL will have 51% stake in the JV, while the remaining will be held by AP Genco.
The state has identified Cuddapah and Srikakulam for setting up the plant and both the sites will be studied before taking a final decision.
