TAS Qatar has awarded Amana a contract for the civil, structural and architectural works construction of the east and west buildings of Barwa District Cooling Plants at Barwa City.
The built up area of the facility is approximately 15,400 square meters and will require 350 tonnes of steel and 14,000 cubic meters of concrete to construct. It will be constructed on a fast track basis with construction work expected to commence immediately and will take 300 days to complete.
The testing and commissioning of the chillers and pumps will start 254 days from commencement. Integrated efforts of all companies involved in the project are essential to achieve the necessary milestones.
After the first round of bidding late 2008, the prices were very high compared to the Client’s budget and the facility was redesigned to minimize the cost while maintaining the desired capacity of the HVAC cooling. This resulted in 35% cost saving on the civil works for the project.
