No cement and steel crisis in Jordanian market -Minister
Monday, 18 May 2009

Jordan Times reported that Mr Amer Hadidi industry and trade minister of Jordan rejected as baseless reports of a cement and steel crisis in the local market.

Mr Hadidi emphasized that the shortage in cement in the past few days was due to the increased demand on the product because the current production by cement factories is around 14,000 tonnes per day while the market needs around 16,000 tonnes.

He said that this problem will end when another factory opens in September. In a related development, Lafarge Jordan Cement increased cement prices by JOD 2.3 per tonne, from JOD 66.4 to JOD 68.7 before tax.
