Anhui Province releases steel adjustment and support plans

It is reported that East China's Anhui province has lately hammered out adjustment & support plans for local steel industry, which brings new chances to speed local steel development and redressal.

With projection period covering 200 to -2011 and prospect spanning to 2020, local government aims to let leading steel producers like Ma'anshan Steel Group to dominate local industry.

The plans also nail down the basic tone for local steel industrial revitalization.

1. Largely promote technical-innovation and realign industrial and product mix.
2. Promoting ore resources both at home and abroad to local leading steel producers.
3. To optimize steel capacity layout, capping total production and further speeding up inefficient capacity cut. And the last is to step up efforts in energy conserve and emission cut to protect environment and realize sustainable development.

According to the plan, steel production in local would reach 32mln tons by 2011, with the ratio of quality specialty steel among the total output hitting above 60%; of this, output for Ma'anshan Steel Group, the top one in Anhui, would reach 20 million tonnes with sales revenue reaching CNY 100 billion.

According to the plan, technical equipments and main econotechnical indicators of these leading mills will wholly reach or approach the world's advanced level by then. Meanwhile, Anhui will also keep its world's No 1 place as a wheel producer, and further expand the production of H-beam, pipeline steel and cold heading steel etc. on which it boasts competitive edges. And it will also accelerate the development of auto sheet, appliances sheet high speed wheel etc that boasts huge market potentials.

Energy consumption and fresh water usage for per ton steel for mainstay steelmakers would be under 620 kilogram of coal equivalent and 50,000 tonnes respectively by then with emission of dust below 1.2 kilogram and SO2 emission below 1.8 kilogram.

Combined output of the province would reach 50 million tonnes by 2020 according to the target set in the plan, with sales revenue for Ma'anshan Steel Group hitting CNY 300 billion. Proportion of auto sheet, appliances sheet and high speed wheel among the total will be lifted to 5%, 15% and 15% respectively from last year's 0.5%, 5% and 5%.
