Slowdown signs - No new orders for Romanian shipyards in 2009
Monday, 08 Jun 2009

BS quoted Mr Gelu Stan Head of National Shipyards Association as saying that Romanian shipyards are expected to face one of the hardest years, as they have not received any orders since the beginning of the year.

For instance, Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries has not yet signed any new contracts.

However, shipyards are working at almost full capacity, aiming to complete orders from the previous years.

Meanwhile, in a bid to ease the effects of the crisis, most shipyards have changed their strategy. Damen Galati reoriented to military and luxury ships, Constanta Shipyard and Daewoo Mangalia plan to focus on ship repairs, while STX Tulcea mulls building almost any type of ship.
