Wednesday, 10 Jun 2009

Areva T&D India Ltd announced that it has consolidated its leadership in 765 kV Extra High Voltage in India by winning 4 major Substations orders from Power Grid

AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division has recently won four orders worth approximately INR 3500 million to supply Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, India’s main transmission utility, with four extra high voltage 765 kV substations.

AREVA will deliver these projects in Lucknow and Ballia in Uttar Pradesh and Bina & Satna in Madhya Pradesh, in partnership with Larsen and Toubro Ltd. AREVA will manufacture a portion of the 765 kV equipment for these substations at its three recently inaugurated manufacturing sites in India dedicated to Extra High Voltage Transmission Products.

The group had already deployed India’s first substation of this kind for the National Thermal Power Corporation at Sipat, in operation since 2007. Thanks to these recent major orders, AREVA T&D India has now won six of twelve 765 kV substation projects so far awarded in India.

Mr Michel Augonnet executive VP for AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution Systems business unit said that “These substation projects further demonstrate AREVA’s proven expertise and leading position in the 765 kV domain in India. We will continue to be actively involved in Power Grid’s plans to enhance its transmission capacities by developing its extra and ultra high voltage transmission networks.”
