Projects Today reported that Karnataka Renewable Energy Development has invited bids from solar technology providers to design, finance, build, operate and maintain solar and hybrid power plants.
However, this step has been is in response to the state government's plan to launch a self sustaining solar technology program in 3,900 villages in 39 most backward blocks to cater to the energy needs of 5 million people.
As per report, solar power is to be provided for street lights, household consumption, entertainment, educational purposes, water lifting for irrigation, drinking water supply, purification and desalination plants, deflourination, milk pasteurization and local cottage industrial applications.
Meanwhile, the solar power is expected to be metered and made available at a fee determined in advance. The provider who wins the contract can collect fees from users.
