According to Ukraine state statistics committee report, Platts reported Ukraine's overall exports of ferrous and non ferrous metals and metal products, measured by value dropped by 53.7% YoY to USD 3.99 billion in January to April 2009 down from USD 8.63 billion worth of exports a year ago.
The committee said that exports of ferrous and non ferrous metals and metal products accounts for 34.9% of the country's total exports worth USD 11.43 billion in January to April 2009.
Its exports of ferrous metals, mostly steel, including goods made from ferrous metal, decreased by 53.4% YoY to USD 3.84 billion in the period down from USD 8.25 billion a year ago reflecting falling prices and weaker demand for steel and other commodities due to the financial crisis.
The committee added that at the same time, exports of aluminium and aluminum products dropped by 45.9% YoY to USD 67.8 million down from USD 125.3 million worth of exports in January to April 2008.
Ukraine also exported USD 30.1 million worth of copper and copper products in January to April 2009 down from USD 123.5 million one year ago.
