MEED reported that Cairo plans to issue a list of pre-qualified bidders for the country's first private wind farm project by September. To date, a total of 55 companies have purchased the prequalification documents for the scheme. The documents will remain on sale until June 21st.
The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company will hold a meeting on July 9th to respond to any requests for clarification from potential bidders.
The deadline for prequalification documents is July 21st. The project covers the construction of a 250 MW wind farm on the Gulf of Suez between Zaafarna and Hurghada.
The successful bidder will develop the farm on a build own operate basis and will enter into a 20-25 year power-purchase agreement with EETC. The farm is due to begin operations in late 2013 or early 2014.
