Asian Age reported that after 24 hours in confinement, former sarpanch of Gobindpur gram panchayat Mr Sukadev Rout was released by the anti POSCO activists on Tuesday.
Mr Rout’s release came after he reportedly agreed to pay compensation to his fellow villagers who have been waging a battle against the POSCO project since 2005. As per reports, Mr Rout, in a bid to save his life, agreed to part with all his landed property and leave the village for good.
The ex sarpanch, who is a leading a pro POSCO leader, was kidnapped on Monday by the anti displacement activists when he visited his village to meet his relatives.
In the last four days, at least 25 people from both the sides have been injured in group clashes.
