It is reported that three Teesside MPs are lobbying the UK government to use Corus' Redcar steel in upcoming projects in a bid to save jobs at the troubled plant.
Mr Vera Baird, Mr Ashok Kuman and Ms Dari Taylor have written to all ministers allocated a construction budget to request steel purchasing is brought forward.
Mr Kumar said that "The state is the biggest influence in UK infrastructure, and if all the proposals in the Building Britain’s Future program are to come to fruition, there will be a huge demand for steel as the building blocks for such things as new power plants, bio process plants, high speed rail lines and integrated flood defense systems for towns and cities. Teesside's steel industry will benefit greatly from this approach, and this is why we are making this statement to ministers today."
Ms Taylor said that "My mission is to do whatever it takes to save Corus."
