It is reported that Punjab State Electricity Board has decided to impose a power cut on the steel industry and arc and induction furnaces in Punjab for a period of seven days from June 25th onwards.
Mr KD Chaudhary member (Distribution) said this is being done to cope with the situation arising in the country due to poor monsoons and to provide requisite power to the agriculture sector in Punjab.
In case of arrival of monsoons, the PSEB is likely to review the decision. All dams in the state have receded to alarmingly low water levels.
Meanwhile, Mr Parkash Singh Badal CM of Punjab has issued directions banning the use of air conditioners in all government offices, corporations and boards in Punjab with immediate effect for the next 7 days.
However, the move is being initiated to provide eight hours of power to the agriculture sector in the paddy growing season.
According to an official spokesman, “The orders will also be applicable to offices of various boards and corporations of the state government. The ban on use of ACs could also be further extended depending on the situation.”
