Indian investment to be welcomed in Bhutan
Friday, 03 Jul 2009

Projects Today reported that the Bhutan Government is expected to invite Indian investments in hydroelectric power generation, information and communication technology, hospitality, education and health sectors as part of its economic liberalization program, which is under preparation.

However, Bhutan is currently allowing 100% FDI in IT and 70% in power. The new policy is likely to be even more liberal.

According to the India-Bhutan cooperation treaty, 10 hydel power projects are to be implemented by 2020. Until now one project of 1,200 MW has become operational recently and the country is hoping to implement the rest within the scheduled timeframe.
