Danube Q1 freight cargo totals 5 million tonnes in Romania

According to the Romanian ministry of transport, as many as 5.097 million tonnes of goods were carried in the Romanian Danube sector in Q1 of 2009. About 2.026 million tonnes of freight were carried at national level and 1,641 million tonnes internationally, the remaining representing transit.
In 2008, carried on the Danube were 14.9716 million tonnes of goods, of which 10.922 million tonnes nationwide and 3.556 million tonnes internationally. As regards passengers, carried on the Danube in Q1 were 23,000 persons.
On the Romanian territory the Danube River is 1,075 kilometers long, the length of the branches being of 524 kilometers. In Romania, registered one year ago there were 75 ships for the transport of passengers, 254 tug boats and pusher boats, 1,221 ships for transport of goods without propulsion and 686 ships for technical service.
