Leighton receives AUD 300 million contract from BMA
Wednesday, 29 Jul 2009

Australia's project development and contracting group Leighton Holdings Ltd said that its wholly owned subsidiary Leighton Contractors' Resources Division has been awarded a three year coal contract extension worth AUD 300 million by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance.

Jointly owned with Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd, BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance is Australia's leading coal miner and exporter and a significant supplier to the seaborne coking coal market.

Under the terms of the deal, Leighton Mining will undertake the project management, surface mining, engineering and maintenance work to remove the overburden at the Peak Downs Mine, which is situated in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland.

Mr Steven Keyser GM of Leighton Mining said that the contract extension demonstrated the success of long term partnerships between experienced mine service providers and top-tier producers such as BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance.
