It is reported that Wuyang Iron & Steel Co Ltd spent over 10 months developing 140mm A514GrQ heavy quenching & tempering high strength steels and signed supply contract with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co Ltd to offer the partner 380 tonnes of the steels for the construction of deepwater offshore platform.

As per report, Wuyang Steel made steel product for offshore platform filled the blank in China ending the absolute dependency on imports.

The tension in oil supply spreads over the world, which lead countries with maritime domain turn to off-shore oil extraction, generating great demands of special steels for the platforms. But, steels for the racks and spud legs of the platforms are very hard to produce and few mills, except Wuyang Steel in China are able to produce these steels.

At present, the steelmaker is wrapped up in exploiting 150mm and above special steels for offshore platform, aiming to extend its production range and seize the new market.
