Malaysia’s Bernama National News Agency has reported that 17 Seventeen crew members aboard the Vietnamese ship MV Hodasco 15, which capsized in the Strait of Malacca near Malaysia, were rescued by a Syrian cargo ship on August 31st 2009.
According to Bernama, the ship, carrying 6,000 tonnes of ore from Calcutta en route to China capsized 48 nautical miles from Lumut of Malaysia’s Perak on August 30th 2009.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency said that it sent three patrol boats to the scene to deploy search and rescue of the victims after receiving the news. MMEA patrol boats then brought the saved crew members, including three Myanmar persons, to Pangkor Island, Perak.
Bernama quoted the captain of ship “Hodasco 15” as saying that there was a leak on the hull of the ship that could not be fixed so water entered the ship.
