The Eastern Freight Corridor project from Son Nagar to Ludhiana route length 1,280 kilometres of the Union Ministry of Railways is expected to pass through a stretch of 160 kilometres in the states of Punjab and Haryana.
Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India executing the project has issued a notification of 20A in regard to the land acquisition for 130 hectare out of 440 hectare to be acquired in Haryana and Punjab.
The survey for the land acquisition is in the process. A railway station at a distance of every 10 kilometer is expected to be constructed. There will be 16 stations on the 160 kilometer stretch. Three rail flyovers, one each near Ambala, between Sirhind and Mandi Gobindgarh and between Shambhu to Rajpura will be constructed.
A huge logistic park, measuring two kilometer in length and 100 meters in width near Doraha in district Ludhiana, will be an integral part of this massive infrastructure project.
The project which is likely to be completed by 2014 aims to cater to seven thermal power plants in the region of which Bathinda, Kalnaur and Rajpura are operational and Talwandi Sabo, Giddarbaha and Patiala are in the pipeline.
