IANS reported that Anti POSCO leader Mr Abhay Sahu, who was released from jail last month, threatened to intensify the stir against the South Korean steel major unless it relocates its proposed steel plant.
Mr Sahu told a public rally near Paradeep that “We warn the state government and POSCO to leave their confrontational attitude and relocate to another location. We are determined not to spare an inch of land from here.”
He added that “I am launching the second phase of protest after being released from jail and the protest would be more intense now onwards.”
Over 20,000 people from around 15 villages, including Dhinkia, Gada Kujanga and Nuagaon are protesting the project saying it will displace them and ruin their betel leaf farming. POSCO however said that the proposed plant would affect only 500 families but create thousands of jobs instead.
