Steel mills should tie up with automakers - Experts

According to experts on the meeting of 2009 international auto steel production and applied technique forum held in Liaoning recently, China steelmakers should enhance cooperation with automakers and strengthen the development of auto steel.

According to data from China Iron & Steel Association in fact, domestically produced auto steel can feed over 90% of home carmakers usage in 2007. However, most of these products were used in medium and low end cars or trucks while plate for top grade sedans still needs imports.

Part of wire rod, steel bar, valve steel for engines and cold heading steel, free cutting steel for high strength standard parts also depend on imports.

Some 70% of auto components are steel products. And many enterprises in the two sectors have started cooperation in products development, processing & distribution as well as pricing.
