Saipem awards contract for transport the jack up rig to Fairstar Heavy
Tuesday, 29 Sep 2009

Gulf Oil & Gas reported that Fairstar Heavy Transport NV has signed a contract with Saipem to transport the jack up rig PERRO NEGRO 3 from India to Dubai. Fairstar’s semi submersible transport vessel FJELL is now underway from Singapore. The transport from the loading location to the discharge site is expected to require about 14 days including time for the actual float on and float off of the rig. Total contract value is approximately EUR 1.2 million.

Mr Philip Adkins CEO of Fairstar stated that “We are delighted to have been selected by Saipem to transport this valuable cargo. Fairstar has won an opportunity to demonstrate the performance of FJELL and our team on board, to a major energy company and valuable relationship. The contract creates important revenue for Fairstar now and is a significant step towards our goal of establishing Fairstar as a leader in the harsh and demanding world of off-shore heavy transport.”

Perro Negro 3 Rig owned by Saipem is a Jackup type of drilling rig. It was designed by Friede & Goldman L-780 MOD II and delivered in 1983 built by Italcanteiri Shipyard at the Arsenale Triestino Trieste Italy shipyard. It is currently holding a Portugal flag. The Perro Negro 3 Jackup can operate at water depths up to 300 feet and drill down to approximately 20,000 feet.
