Dhamra Port Company rescues a sinking trawler

With the MV Black Rose mishap still fresh in mind, timely action by Dhamra Port Company Ltd and its dredging contractor International Seaport Dredging Ltd saved a fishing trawler with five crew members from sinking in the sea in the wee hours on October 1st 2009

A DPCL sources informed that the fishing trawler MV Kalia has reached the Dhamra fishing jetty safely this morning and all its crew members are safe.

The fishing trawler of Balaramgadi area had met with a mishap near the Kanika islands during the late hours on Wednesday night. The trawler, which was on its way to Dhamra, hit a big sand dune near the Kanika islands. With the driver losing control, the boat titled towards the left and huge quantity of water gushed into it.

Following a request from the Dhamra Fishermen Association, the DPCL management with the help of ISDL launched an emergency rescue operation and saved the trawler and all crew members.
