It is reported that the freight earning of Indian Railways in September 2009 at INR 4,465.75 crore was up by 8.42% YoY over the same month of 2008. The Railways registered passenger earnings of INR 1,855.93 crore during the month, a 9.34% growth against September 2008.

The total earning of the Railways on originating basis during the first six months of 2009-10 was INR 40,910.49 crore, an increase of 6.65% over INR 38,358.16 crore during the same period last year. The total goods earnings in the six months touched INR 27,631.32 crore an increase of 5.84%.

The total passenger revenue earning during the first six months of 2009-10 was INR 11,573.91 crore as compared with INR 10,755.10 crore during the same period last year, registering a 7.61% growth.
