AP reported that eleven senior citizens protesting mountaintop removal mining in southern West Virginia are continuing a 25 mile trek from Charleston to a mine owned by Virginia based Massey Energy. The protesters began the 5 day march on October 8th 2009.

Their numbers will fluctuate between now and Monday afternoon, when they arrive at the Mammoth Coal mine in eastern Kanawha County.

Mr Andrew Munn, a 23 year-old organizer with Climate Ground Zero, said that the seniors are maintaining a good pace and moving faster than expected. The marchers are all over 50 and are being led by 81 year old military veteran Mr Roland Micklem of Savannah.

Younger supporters are sometimes walking with them and trailing behind in support vehicles.
