SA ferrochrome acceleration may revive problem for electricity
Monday, 19 Oct 2009

TEX reported that by taking into account of a basic tone to be reviving the economic activities in industries of South Africa, which are the consumption of electric power in August 2009 had only a slight decrease of 1.6% from that in the same month of 2008.

Although August is winter time in South Africa, owing to the rebounded prices of ferrochrome, South African producers are moving to expand their production of ferrochrome and this action is causing to increase the consumption of electric power in this country, and so on, Eskom, Electric Power Corporation in South Africa, announced on the end of last week a warning that the supply of electric power in South Africa is anticipated to enter again into a critical situation.
A crisis in supply of electric power suddenly occurred in February of 2008 in South Africa had created such countermeasures as to cut the power supply by 10%, to freeze new allocation for supply of electric power, and so on.

However, a crisis of the world economy arisen in September of 2008 has caused to shrink rapidly the activities to produce ferrochrome, platinum, and so on, which consume large volumes of electric power, and this decline in production of such commodities as mentioned above had resulted in a reduction in consumption of electric power for 2008. Consequently, the supply and demand of electric power in South Africa had passed the year of 2008 without a substantial failure.
