Chinese steel consumption to rise by 120 million tonnes in 2009

According to Mr Shan Shanhua the secretary general of China Iron & Steel Association, China apparent steel consumption is predicted to rise by 120 million tonnes or 26% this year given the fast increasing steel productions, particular those of small and medium size mills.

According to the calculation of Mr Shan Shanhua, the apparent steel consumption would reach 570 million tonnes in 2009. Meanwhile, the statistics of CISA also show the steel output recorded at 16.459 million tonnes in the later September equaling to 598 million tonnes annual total output.

In 2008, the China apparent steel consumption was 450 million tonnes up by 2.94%YoY from the previous year.

Apparent steel consumption includes the country overall steel productions and steel imports.
