Business Standard reported that the police at Korba, the site of Bharat Aluminum’s ill fated project where a chimney crash last month killed 41 workers are hunting for Mr Viral Mehta the man in charge at the time.

Mr Mehta assistant GM was in charge of Balco’s new power project at Korba and has been missing since the mishap of September 23rd 2009. He is supposed to have been in overall charge of the construction which came down.

Sources said that a Korba court had rejected Mr Mehta’s petition on October 15th 2009 for anticipatory bail against arrest.

Mr Ratanlal Dangi head police of Korba’s district said that “The police are in search of Mehta and he is missing after the mishap.”

Mr Dangi added that police party was sent to Mehta’s native place in Gujarat but could not get information on where he was. But, Balco officials said that Mehta is in contact.

However, Mr BK Sriwastwa Balco’s chief of corporate communications said that “The official is not missing but may not be in Korba as he has been touring on official assignments.”
