TATA Steel’s emphasis on safety at all levels of its operations received national ovation at New Delhi when the Company was honored with National Safety Award.
The award was given to TATA Steel’s West Bokaro Division an open cast mine for holding a record of Lowest Injury Frequency Rate for the year 2007.
Mr Mohammed Hamid Ansari vice president of India presented the award to TATA Steel representatives comprising Mr Sanjay Kumar Singh chief of Quarry South East and Mr S B K Sharma president of Rashtriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh West Bokaro. Mr A K Ojha general manager West Bokaro Division was also present on the occasion.
The award was instituted by Ministry of Labor and Employment, Government of India and Directorate General of Mines Safety, Government of India. This is the third consecutive year that the division’s safe work culture has been acknowledged at the national level.
West Bokaro Division of TATA Steel has three fully mechanized eco friendly open cast mines which produces 6 million tonne per annum raw coal. The Division is certified to Environment Management System ISO-14001, Qimpro Benchmark Award, National Energy Award, Prime Minister Shram Shree Awards, Green Tech Safety Gold Award, Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra Award, OHSAS 18001 and many other awards in different areas like safety, quality, customer orientation and others. The Division’s commitment to ensure a safe work culture also finds reassurance in the several awards won during Annual Mines Safety Week Competition 2007.
