France's Areva SA which has signed a JV agreement with Bharat Forge to manufacture pressurized heavy water reactors in January 2009 has short listed two locations at Dahej and Mundra in Gujarat for its nuclear reactor project.
The project which is expected to entail an investment of around INR 1,000 crore is likely to be located in the same complex that will house the forgings company. The reactor venture requires 50 acre of port based land.
The facility is likely to cater to nuclear and thermal power projects and will have a 14,000 tonne per annum capacity forging press, along with an equipment and steel making facility.
According to sources, TATA Power Company, GMR Energy, Jindal Steel and Power, JSW Group, Vedanta Resources Plc and Reliance Power have evinced interest in setting up nuclear power plants once this takes place.
