
Hurriyet Daily reported that the Turkish company that built the Arena Stadium in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana used aluminum from Bursa an industrial city in northwestern Turkey.
Mr Ensar Geyik GD of Can Alüminyum, a Bursa based aluminum company, said that the Astana Arena Stadium, which has a spectator capacity of 30,000, is one of the most important structures in the city.
Mr Geyik said that “We collaborated with an Istanbul based company on this project. Together, we exported 40 tonnes of aluminum which were then used for the roof and lighting systems of the stadium.”
Construction on the stadium began in 2006 and was finished June 7th 2009. Built by Turkish contractor Sembol İnşaat it cost USD 180 million. The facility will be used as a multifunctional entertainment complex for different sports and gathering purposes but was mainly planned as a soccer field adhering to FIFA and UEFA criteria.
