US Department of Energy announced that Air Products & Chemicals Inc will receive USD 30 million in stimulus funds to build a green power generation plant at AK Steel's Middletown Works.
The grants include more than USD 155 million in funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for 41 industrial energy efficient projects across the country.
APC will use the funds to build a generating plant that will capture and process blast furnace gas, according to a news release. The plant will use gases that the steel maker normally burns off to generate more than 100 MWs of power and save an estimated 2.7 trillion BTUs annually.
