Interfax cited Mr Viktor Ostapchuk head of Pivdenna Railways as saying that the company is mulling the production of rail buses jointly with Poland Pesa at the Izium locomotive repair plant.
He said that "Probably, production jointly with Poland Pesa will be organized at Izium locomotive repair plant. There is a nice new workshop there which could be reequipped a little and used for the production of rolling stock."
According to Ostapchuk, State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia is in talks with Czech firm Skoda which is ready to supply passenger electric locomotives and double-decker electric trains to Ukraine.
Currently twelve rail buses run in Ukraine, eight of which are operated by Pivdenna railways.
