Gulf News reported that ABB has signed USD 21 million orders with EPC contractor China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation to design and supply a state of the art integrated electrical system for the billion dollar Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline project.
As per report, with a length of 400 kilometres and a diameter of 48 inches, the pipeline from Habshan in Abu Dhabi which links to the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operation facility will transport an estimated 1.5 million barrels of crude oil per day to the main terminal in Fujairah in the northern emirates. The pipeline will develop an export capability on the eastern seaboard of the UAE and reduce shipping congestion in the Strait of Hormuz.
Construction on the fast track project began in early 2008 and is scheduled to be completed by August 2011.
Mr Bjarte Pedersen head of the Process Automation Division in the Middle East and Africa for ABB said that "As a proven performer in the oil and gas industry, ABB is proud to be a part of this landmark project in the UAE."
He said that "Our comprehensive automation system will help the owner, International Petroleum Investment Company get the maximum value out of their control system investment, while providing a secure evolution path forward to help them maintain their competitiveness."
