Miningmx reported that the Eskom board prevented Mr Jacob Maroga CEO of Eskom from entering Megawatt Park and his duties were divided among the electricity utility’s top management.
According to the board his resignation on October 28th 2009 remains valid despite his turning up at the office on Monday.
A senior source said that “The board was not aware that he had returned to work and was disturbed about that. Acting chairperson Mr Mpho Makwana took steps to prevent him from returning to Megawatt Park today.”
Mr Gwede Mantashe secretary general of ANC, in referring to the Eskom crisis which had led to the resignation of Chairman Mr Bobby Godsell on Tuesday, said that it was uncalled for to drag racism into the issue. He said that “To accuse Mr Godsell of being a racist we know this is anything but true. We need to focus on the crisis and try to resolve it.”
The country's 2 most influential trade union leaders, Cosatu's Mr Zwelenzima Vavi and the National Union of Mineworkers’ Mr Frans Baleni, deplored attempts by the Black Management Forum to accuse Mr Godsell of racism.
Mr Vavi said that “Pulling out the race card when there is no real racism makes it difficult to combat real racism.”
At the behest of Mr Makwana Eskom’s top management spent the whole of Tuesday in a meeting at Eskom's conference centre in Midrand.
Mr Maroga’s duties have been divided amongst other top officials. Most of these will be handled by Mr Brian Dames head of generation and Mr Erica Johnson head of client services.
