It is reported that PetroChina has signed a cooperative agreement with the city of Nanchong in southwestern Sichuan province to provide oil and gas feedstock to the local petrochemical deep processing base.

PetroChina mainly produced natural gas in Sichuan during 2008 with its natural gas output reaching 4415.29 million cubic meters accounting for 5.5% of the national total.

Due to the lack of long distance gas pipelines, PetroChina natural gas output in Sichuan is mainly used to supply local consumers. Its arch rival Sinopec has been pumping its natural gas produced from the Puguang gasfield into east China since October through its Sichuan to East pipeline.
