Interfax-China reported that the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region continued to be China's most prolific coal producing region as of the end of October.

According to Inner Mongolia Coal Industry Bureau statistics, Inner Mongolia produced 511 million tonnes of coal in the first ten months of the year, representing an increase of 125 million tonnes or 32.3%YoY.

Inner Mongolia replaced Shanxi Province as China largest coal producing region this year following the province's crack down on small scale coalmines.

According to the latest government geographical survey Inner Mongolia has 701.6 billion tonnes of proven coal reserves, making its reserves the richest in China. The region's annual coal output has grown rapidly in recent years, expanding from 114.5 million tonnes in 2002 to 457 million tonnes in 2008.

The average per well output of the region coalmines is more than 790,000 tonnes a year among the highest in China and far superior to Shanxi.

Inner Mongolia exports more than 60% of its coal to other parts of China.
