It is reported that in early November a freezing air hit China and then heavy snow fell in central Shaanxi, central and south Shanxi and Hebei, northwest Henan, northwest Hubei and northwest Shandong etc which drives up power coal consumption in north China.

Statistic show that daily consumption of coal in China locally-serving power enterprises reached 2.23 million tonnes on November 15th up by 50,000 tonnes per day compared with on October 31st. On November 15th stock volume of coal went down to 25.49 million tonnes on November 15th which was enough for 13 days' operation. In east China stockpile of coal could only sustain 7 days operation, lowest nationwide. Increasing coal demand in the season has also led to the rise of coal price in China's east coastal areas and Asian-pacific region as well.

As per report, during October and early November the transaction price of coal at Qin Huangdao, China largest coal port, experienced three consecutive times of rise. By November 15th the transaction price of coal with 5,500 calorie per kilogram at Qin Huangdao had reached CNY 650 per tonne, CNY 55 per tonne higher than in October 1st.

As China economy and demand of downstream sectors continue to recover, coal consumption is expected to set new records. As it is estimated, there's still room for coal price to rise.
