MSC to effect general rate increase in December

The Mediterranean Shipping Co has announced the implementation of a general rate increase for cargo originating from North Europe, Scandinavia, Baltic, West Mediterranean and Adriatic as well as Italy and Spain to Indian Subcontinent destinations effective from December.
The rate increase will be as follows:
1. USD 150 per container for any commodity (including waste and marble) effective December 1st 2009 from NWC/UK/Scandinavia/Baltic
2. USD 100 per container for any commodity (including waste, marble and minerals) effective December 15th 2009 from West Mediterranean
The GRI is being implemented in view of the healthy demand and considering the huge costs involved in keeping services at the required level
